Blackhole.mx is a free crowdsourcing-based service to help professionals in fighting spam. No matter how you help reporting spam, either by pointing your unused domains to the blackhole systems, or by using the Thunderbird plugin to report directly from your Thunderbird email client, you are part of the community which helps the professionals working at ISPs and security companies to fight spam much more effectively by letting them know what's unsolicited email communication.
What happens with your domains If you use your domains only for http (or other services) but not for email, blackhole.mx will help you from being spammed in the future and we will be able to analyze the unwanted email traffic to efficiently fight spam.
You can point your domains to blackhole.mx and switch back at any time, you keep the full control over your domains. We accept all kinds of domains - each additional domain helps making blackhole.mx more effective.
We do not intend to burn or spoil the reputation of domains - we just use them to receive from and to respond to people sending unsolicited emails. If you point your domain to the blackhole.mx systems the email traffic which is sent to recipients of this domain will usually receive a 550 hard bounce code from the blackhole.mx mail server, which actually means there is no email service currently in operation for the recipients. Emails will only be accepted for some recipients if we are sure that the original sender of the email takes care and will take action to avoid sending spam in the future. Thus your domain can be used for a real email service later or at any time again.
Just point your domain to the blackhole.mx systems with a so-called DNS MX record, e.g. in a BIND zone file:
yourdomain.tld. IN MX 10 void.blackhole.mx.
Many ISPs and Domain Registrars offer convenient customer web interfaces to perform this task. And, you may change the MX record for your domain(s) at any time!
Important: Please see the disclaimer at the end of this website. We assume, that you wouldn't want to receive email traffic for your domain, anyway or anymore. If there is still traffic coming in from a former email domain usage, we assume you don't want it either and don't care. Please follow the abusix Twitter account to be informed about changes and enhancements which might be implemented in the future.
Warning: It is very important to know, that the domains you point via MX record to the blackhole.mx services are currently not used for any email traffic or communication by yourself. Usually this is a domain you only utilize as a website, but definitely not for email addresses.
